Mis-Fueling at a Petrol Forecourt

What to do if you put petrol in a diesel vehicle and vice versa

1. Don't Turn On The Ignition

Do not turn on the ignition or start the vehicle if you have put petrol into a diesel car or vice versa. If you have already started the engine and driven the car, it is important to let us know. If the vehicle hasn’t been started, the petrol will remain in the tank and has not circulated through the rest of the fuel system.

2. Tell Forecourt Station Staff

Tell the petrol station employees that you have put the incorrect fuel into your vehicle. Don't worry, forecourt staff see this quite often so they know how to deal with the mishap.

3. If driven off the petrol forecourt

Ensure your vehicle is in a secure location, not blocking traffic, and not endangering you or anyone else nearby. Your vehicle may run for a few miles since if you unknowingly put the incorrect fuel in it. You should immediately pull over and ask for help if the car begins to jump and hop. Before you call us, choose a good, secure area to stop. Please provide as much information as you can about where you are.
